Introducing The General
Awarded the Bay of Plenty’s Most Outstanding Café for 2017/18 and 2019/20, our menu incorporates current trends and cooking techniques with almost all of what we serve made in-house. We source the best produce we can get our hands on, using independent suppliers for individual ingredients. We pride ourselves on delivering quality food, with a smile day in, day out.

Meet Sarah & Will
Will & Sarah, the new owners of The General, are foodies at heart. They have always loved going out for a cafe breakfast/lunch, with The General being one of their favourite spots. So, when the opportunity to purchase the cafe came up, it was a dream come true. Knowing they have big boots to fill, they’re up for the challenge! With the great team here behind them, they’re confident that they can continue all the good things that make The General so popular.

Our Coffee
At The General, every coffee you purchase gives a little to The Sheldrick trust in Kenya.
Our coffee roasters, Velvet Coffee, donates 40-cents per item directly to the trust.
For over 25-years, David & Daphne of The Sheldrick trust have worked tirelessly to help the wildlife & people of Kenya and surrounding areas by way of education, anti-poaching, orphans project, aerial surveillance, veterinary care and habitat restoration and retention.
By drinking coffee at The General, you are directly helping in the longevity of the elephant in Africa and its people.
